establishment staff to apply in order to turn the establishment into a green tourist
destination, contributing to protecting the natural and social environment, and
contributing to making Vietnam’s tourism a sustainable economic sector. Four sets of
Green Tourism Label criteria have been compiled into a Green Tourism Label handbook
with two main contents: Evaluation criteria for granting the Green Tourism Label and
the process of evaluating and granting Green Tourism Label certification.
Vietnam has also participated in the development and application of the ASEAN
Green Hotel Standards since 2006. The countries have agreed to draft a document
guiding the methods and assessment process according to the criteria of the ASEAN
Green Hotel Standards, as a basis for hotels to self-assess and for certification
organizations to apply and implement while helping consulting units, business owners
and those operating in the tourism sector to research and implement. The assessment
criteria include 11 groups of criteria, 30 items, and 80 specific criteria. Evaluation
method: use a score of 0 - 1 (0: not achieved and 1: achieved) for each criterion. The
total score is the unit's score. The score of each group of criteria must reach over 50%
of the maximum score of that group of criteria, the total score must reach at least 60%
of the maximum score to be considered satisfactory. (detailed criteria and assessment
scale in Table 1, Table 2):
