In general, household businesses tend to prefer using cardboard boxes, which
account for 38.5% of usage. Meanwhile, packaging for goods by enterprises often
combines both materials: cardboard and plastic bags, making up 42.9%. Additionally,
businesses rarely use paper bags for packaging. Plastic bags are used to package
e-commerce goods on all platforms, from websites, e-commerce markets to social
networks. The use of packaging materials varies between online sales forms (Nguyen

                  Thanh Hung et al., 2024).

Delivery companies report that, for fragile items, many stores use excessive
amounts of foam and bubble wrap at rates of 30% and 35% respectively. Most orders
use plastic tape as an auxiliary material. Additionally, due to the high rate of damaged
goods, sellers are compelled to use five-layer cardboard instead of the usual three-
layer cardboard, packaging multi-layer, resulting in a significant increase in waste
released into the environment. Notably, Vietnam’s packaging standards are still poor
when each type of item is packaged differently while developed countries have

                  regulations regarding box sizes.
