Protective packaging, such as plastic wraps and bubble wrap, accounted for 35%
of global e-commerce plastic packaging usage in 2019. This made it the most widely
used type of plastic packaging that year. The total usage of e-commerce plastic
packaging in 2019 was approximately 2.1 billion pounds. It is expected that the use of
e-commerce plastic packaging will continue to rise in the coming years, with estimates
reaching around 4.5 billion pounds by 2025. In 2019, plastic packaging waste from
e-commerce was estimated to exceed one billion kg worldwide.

This study shows that 5% of the Vietnamese population purchases over 50 online
products/services per year. This means that 5% of the population buys 250,000,000
online products and services. Consequently, the amount of e-commerce waste released
into the environment is substantial. According to Ms. Lai Viet Anh, Deputy Director of
the Department of E-Commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and
