ASSESSMENT OF THE FACTORS AFFECTING GREEN GROWTH

                                ACTIVITIES IN HANOI TOURISM BUSINESSES

Abstract: Green growth is one of the components of sustainable development. Businesses play a
direct role in promoting green growth activities. In particular, tourism businesses contribute
significantly to the process of promoting green growth. However, in reality, green growth activities in
tourism businesses are not clear and effective and still face many shortcomings. This study uses the AHP
analysis theory to evaluate factors affecting green growth activities in Hanoi tourism businesses. The
results show that there are five main factors affecting green growth activities in Hanoi tourism
businesses including “Businesses readiness”, “Business green input”, “Business green behavior”,
“Businesses benefits” and the factor “External factors”. The factor “Businesses readiness” has the
strongest impact and “External factors” has the least impact.

                        1. Introduction
Green growth in Vietnam is an important part of sustainable development.
According to the United Nations Green Growth Initiative, green growth or building a
green economy is the process of restructuring economic activities and infrastructure to
achieve better results from investments in resources, human resources and finance, while
reducing greenhouse gas emissions, responding to climate change, exploiting and using
less natural resources, creating less waste, contributing to hunger eradication and

poverty reduction, creating momentum to promote sustainable economic growth and
reducing social inequality. Green growth is based on low-carbon policies to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and in the growth model focusing on the input of existing
factors, the use of natural resources increases as the economy develops, in which
economic growth and environmental damage such as greenhouse gas emissions are
linked. In the process of production and consumption, the amount of emissions of

pollutants such as carbon dioxide also increases. Green growth is a low-carbon
economic development model that aims to reduce greenhouse gases and is based on
ecological efficiency to separate economic growth from environmental damage,
maximize resource efficiency and minimize environmental pollution (Gu J., Renwich
N., Xue L., 2018). Tourism is also one of the economic development models towards
green growth and sustainable development with the goals of protecting the environment,
protecting natural and cultural resources while promoting people's livelihoods,

                  contributing to social security.
However, the existing literature on tourism and green growth is limited and
fragmented, as it mainly focuses on aggregate measures of tourism, such as total tourist
arrivals or tourism revenue while ignoring the diversity of tourism activities and
