The results of Table 6 show that Vietnam’s SMEs should prioritize GHRM
practices to achieve for SGEG in terms of recruitment and selection, green training and

development, green performance management and green compensation and rewards.
                        5. Recommendations and conclusions
5.1. Recommendations for implementation of GHRM practices
Based on the study’s findings, the researcher has proposed some recommendations
for the effective implementation of GHRM practices in Vietnam’s SMEs to gain SGEG
as discussed in the following sections.
                        5.1.1. Recommendations for policymakers
In order to implement GHRM practices effectively, Vietnam’s policymakers

                  should take the following actions:
Firstly, Vietnam’s policymakers should issue and enforce the policies that
prioritize the pioneering green industries’ development. Specific regulations giving
priority to sustainable green growth based on green human resource management
practices will create new driving forces for SMEs to achieve good performances. These
policies will encourage SMEs to adopt more sustainable practices in terms of

recruitment, training and retention of their labor force to achieve sustainable
                  development.
Secondly, Vietnam’s policymakers should pass the law involving the political
system with model transformation, institutional reform to propagate and disseminate
knowledge about the ‘green economy’, and ‘green growth’ to all classes of people.
SMEs’ sustainable activities will raise their employees’ awareness of green human
resource management practices to gain green growth.

Thirdly, Vietnam’s policymakers should enforce a law requiring all SMEs to build
a sustainable legal framework involving green human resource management practices.
The law should focus on the individual responsibility within the enterprises for green
activities at work. Establishing a sustainable legal framework will provide SMEs with
legal principles and guide them to implement green practices effectively to gain
                  sustainability.

Fourthly, Vietnam’s policymakers should facilitate and apply policies to support
the green businesses. It is essential to give SMEs a priority to access high-tech,
environmentally friendly industries, community welfare and develop skill-focused
training programs to support workforce’s participation in the green economy.
Fifthly, Vietnam’s policymakers should issue an investment policy for green
technology’s development and mechanism to stimulate SMEs to conduct green human
resource management practices for sustainable growth. In fact, investment policy for
green enables enterprises to apply modern technologies to speed up their green

                  operations for sustainable growth.
5.1.2. Recommendations for the managerial boards of SMEs in Vietnam
In order to implement GHRM practices effectively, the managerial boards of
SMEs in Vietnam should take the following actions:
Firstly, managerial boards of SMEs in Vietnam should review and update GR&S

                                                                                                         452
