Finally, the essential oil was stored in a dark/brown glass with a tight lid and kept in the refrigerator under 4oC for analysis.Figure 1. Diagram of black pepper essential oil extraction protocol using 10 L hydro-distillation reactor system2.3. Influential conditions for essential oil recovery yield from black pepperEffect of raw material type In this experiment, two types of materials including dried black pepper (moisture of 1.15%) and fresh one (moisture of 33.33%) were studied. The raw material was coarsely ground and sieved to obtain a powder form having consistent sizes of 2-3 mm. Other parameters such as weight of black pepper powder, solvent to matrix ratio and distillation time were fixed at levels of 300 g, 100 g/L and 240 min, respectively.Effect of distillation timeTo examine the effect of distillation time on oil recovery yield, dried black pepper powder was used for each batch with the loads of 300, 400 and 500 g and its sizes of 2-3 mm, solvent to matrix ratio fixed at 100 g/L, thus consistently added 3 L, 4 L and 5 L of RO water into the stainless pot, respectively.
