492 PROCEEDINGS OF INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON APPLIED BIOTECHNOLOGYEPS with different levels. The highest EPS production was recorded for the strain 2.35 (10.5 mg/mL) followed by MT12 (10 mg/mL) v%u00e0 LB16 (8.3 mg/mL). The coloration of EPSs varied with hues ranging from white to dark brown apparitions (Fig. 1A).Figure 1. Crude EPSs produced by representative strains (A) and their antibacterial activity against S. typhimurium ATCC 14028Agar-well diffusion assay was then carried out to evaluate antibacterial activity of 30 EPSs. Of note, 3 out 30 EPSs showed antibacterial activity against at least one pathogen. EPS 3.2 and 5.6 were active against S. aureus ATCC 6538 (2.1 %u00b1 0.3 mm) and S. typhimurium ATCC 14028 (3.3 %u00b1 0.2mm), respectively. Interestingly, E. coli ATCC 8739, S. typhimurium ATCC 14028, S. epidermidis ATCC 12228 were strongly inhibited by the crude EPS produced by MT12 with the inhibition zones of 7.2 %u00b1 0.4 mm, 9.3%u00b1 0.2 mm, and 8.4%u00b1 0.4 mm, respectively (Fig. 1B). Therefore, the strain MT12 was selected for further studies.
