achieved self-sufficiency of about 90% of its electricity for production (at current prices,
equivalent to approximately VND 4,000 billion) 217 .
High-pressure cold water slag granulation technology and slag grinding line at Hai
Duong - Quang Ngai Iron and Steel Complex. S95 blast furnace slag products have
contributed to thoroughly treating solid waste in green steel production.
In 2022, Hoa Phat's total output of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS)
S95 reached 1.4 million tons, a 40% increase compared to 2021, including 20,000 tons
exported to Australia 218 . By 2025, the two steelmaking complexes in Hai Duong and
Quang Ngai are expected to supply the market with approximately 2.7 million tons of
GGBS per year after investing in an additional grinding line with a capacity of 1 million
tons per year.
Energy recovery turbine technology, Blast Furnace Fan (BPRT), applied at Hai
Duong and Quang Ngai steel plants.
Continuous Casting - Rolling technology, utilizing heat from hot billets, hot billets
after casting with a temperature of 750 - 900 degrees Celsius will be immediately
transferred to the rolling line to produce finished steel. This solution has minimized
energy use and reduced CO2 emissions.
In 2022, the industrial park invested in planting a variety of trees; the total grass
coverage within the industrial park reached nearly 200,000 square meters (a 7% increase
compared to 2021); and the total number of newly planted trees in 2022 exceeded
31,000 .

From June 2023, Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel began to contact consulting units to
prepare reports and inventory of greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, provide
operational data and related information to serve the greenhouse gas inventory for the
period 2022-2023.
(February 21, 2024) Hoa Phat Dung Quat was confirmed by BSI (UK International
Certification Organization) to have completed the Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report
according to ISO 14064-1:2018 Standard.
Recently, according to VNDIRECT Securities Company's report on HPG, the
European Commission has imposed a new 15% quota on HRC steel imports from
several countries, including Vietnam. Additionally, the European Commission has
confirmed that they have all the necessary documents to decide whether to initiate an
anti-dumping investigation into HRC steel imports from Vietnam, including both HPG
and Formosa. However, VNDIRECT argues that the European market accounts for only
3 - 11% of HPG’s total revenue in 2022 and 2023. Assuming a similar ratio for Formosa,
another HRC steel exporter from Vietnam, both steelmakers can attempt to sell to other
markets or increase domestic sales in Vietnam. Therefore, the European Commission's
decision on the anti-dumping investigation of HRC steel will not have a significant
impact on HPG.
