In the process of online retailing, merchants directly package products according

to orders and hand them over to delivery units, or delivery units receive orders from
packaging service providers. Therefore, delivery companies do not keep detailed
statistics on the materials used. The WWF organization conducted an indirect survey of
one company, which reported that the outer packaging made of carton accounted for
40%, while plastic materials and other types of materials made up 60%. The average
weight of a carton package is 100g, while the packaging made of plastic and other

materials weighs 10g. In 2023, the total number of packages for e-commerce from this
company was 13.2 million, with the weight of carton packaging being 528 tons and
plastic materials and other materials being 79 tons.
