these, cardboard boxes and plastic bags are the most commonly used packaging by
sellers. In sectors such as clothing, fashion, accessories, and fast food, up to 90% of
store owners use plastic bags, boxes, and plastic cups for packaging. With the current
growth rate, it is forecasted that by 2030, the size of Vietnam's e-commerce market will
be 4.7 times its current size, and plastic waste from e-commerce will reach 800,000 tons.
With the trend of green economic development, the e-commerce industry must
adopt multiple appropriate development strategies, including green and sustainable
e-commerce, in line with the national strategy for green growth for the period 2021-
2030, with a vision toward 2050.
2. Perspectives on Sustainable E-commerce
Sustainable e-commerce is currently a new topic attracting many researchers
because the understanding, perspectives, and conditions for developing sustainable
e-commerce have been presented by international organizations, countries, and e-

research papers have addressed the development of sustainable e-commerce. In the
report "Sustainable E-commerce Development: Driving Forces for the Digital
Economy," conducted by Lazada Vietnam in collaboration with the Vietnam Chamber

investments in infrastructure, technology, logistics, and human resources.
Business: Sustainable e-commerce creates more value for stakeholders by building

businesses (sellers and brands), and consumers.
Technology: Sustainable e-commerce prioritizes investment in technologies that
support platform openness, using APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) at all
touchpoints of e-commerce with partners to connect and fully utilize many services from
partners on e-commerce platforms.
Customer Experience: Sustainable e-commerce connects individual shopping
behaviors of consumers, aiming for a comprehensive and long-term shopping trend from
searching, selecting, purchasing, payment, to returns.
Payment: Payments in e-commerce will increasingly expand to connect with a
diverse range of financial partners and shift towards "buy now, pay later," meeting
consumer payment needs and making online shopping more flexible and convenient.
Social Aspect: Sustainable e-commerce acts as a bridge to promote widespread
understanding of e-commerce among businesses and consumers nationwide,
contributing to the implementation of the e-commerce universalization policy in
localities as part of the National E-commerce Development Master Plan for the
2021-2025 period.
Sustainable e-commerce refers to conducting online business in a way that
