In 2014, Vietnam's plastic waste amounted to 1.8 million tons, increasing to 2
million tons by 2016. The volume of waste has been rapidly increasing, reaching 2.7

million tons in 2018 and 2.93 million tons in 2021.
According to the WWF report, Vietnam is facing numerous risks from plastic
waste. The composition of plastic waste plays a crucial role in recycling efforts. Plastic
bags are the main component, accounting for 45-63%, followed by single-use plastics,
which make up 12-26% of plastic waste in various localities.
In the context of rapidly growing e-commerce in Vietnam, with impressive growth

rates, managing and optimizing the use of packaging has become an urgent issue. The
WWF 2023 report indicates that the increase in the use of carton boxes and plastic bags
not only reflects market demand but also exerts significant pressure on the natural
environment. This poses challenges for businesses to transition to more sustainable
packaging methods.
