%u03b1-GLUCOSIDASE INHIBITORY ACTIVITY OF EXTRACTS AND COMPOUNDS FROM ZINGIBER ZERUMBET LINN RHIZOMESTruong Nhan Ngu1, Phu Khanh Nguyen2, Thi Huong Dang3, Thi Kim An Nguyen4,*Abstract: Total methanol residue, n-hexane and chloroform extracts from Zingiber zerumbet Linn rhizomes have been evaluated for %u03b1-glucosidase inhibitory activity in an attempt to identify potential active ingredients in natural products. The results showed that the chloroform extract inhibited%u03b1-glucosidase more effectively than the positive control acarbose, with an IC50 value of 126.9 %u00b5g/mL. Chemical investigation of the chloroform extract led to the isolation of vanillic acid (1) and naringenin (2). Both compounds 1 and 2 expressed strong %u03b1-glucosidase inhibitory activity with respective IC50 values of 102.8 and 19.6 %u00b5M, which are two-fold and eleven-fold lower 1 Tay Nguyen University, 567 Le Duan Street, Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak Province, Vietnam; ntnhan@ttn.edu.vn2 Department of Biochemistry, Military Hospital, 175, 786 Nguyen Kiem Street, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; ngockhanh175@gmail. com3 Institute of Biological and Food Technology - Hanoi Open University, B101 Nguyen Hien, Bach Khoa, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi, Vietnam; dthuong10@hou.edu.vn4 Hanoi University of Industry, 289 Cau Dien Street, North Tu Liem District, Hanoi, Vietnam; kimansp@gmail.com* Correspondence: kimansp@gmail.com
