THE POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS OF PROBIOTIC BACILLUS FOR DEPRESSIONThi Tuyet Nhung Nguyen 1,**, Hoa Mai Sam 1, Thanh Binh Nguyen2Abstract: Depressive disorder (depression) is a pathological condition characterized by emotional disturbances and symptoms indicating inhibition of mental activities, such as persistent sadness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, and fatigue. It is a multifactorial condition influenced by genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors. In the current context, depression is becoming increasingly common, affecting 2.45% of Vietnam%u2019s population [1]. This figure is part of a broader mental health burden, which includes a variety of disorders, with mental health disorders in general impacting 14.2% of the population. Depression impacts patients%u2019 quality of life and imposes a burden on families and healthcare systems. In severe cases, it can lead to suicidal thoughts and behaviors, contributing to a significant percentage of deaths worldwide. Developing appropriate treatment protocols is crucial. Traditional treatments, such as psychotherapy and mood-regulating medications, are widely used. However, their limitations, including potential side effects and high costs, have sparked interest in alternative approaches. 1 Department of Life Sciences, University of Science and Technology of Hanoi, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology2 Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Thai Binh, Viet Nam* Correspondence: nguyen-thi-tuyet.nhung@usth.edu.vn
