3.2.2. Air transport infrastructure
In addition to maritime transport, air transportation also plays an essential role in
import–export logistics, particularly for high-value goods or products requiring rapid
delivery. Examples include electronics, technological components, and fashion products.
Vietnam currently operates 22 airports, including 9 international airports, which
serve as gateways for international cargo transportation [2]. Major airports such as Noi
Bai International Airport, Tan Son Nhat International Airport, and Da Nang International
Airport function as important air logistics hubs connecting Vietnam with global trade
centers.
With the rapid expansion of international trade and cross-border e-commerce, air
cargo transport is expected to continue growing significantly in the coming years.
3.2.3. Logistics centers and bonded warehouses
In recent years, Vietnam has developed numerous logistics centers and bonded
warehouses to support import–export activities. Regions such as Hai Phong, Quang Ninh,
Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai have emerged as major logistics
clusters closely associated with industrial zones and seaports.
These logistics centers play a crucial role in storing, distributing, and transshipping
international cargo. The application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in
warehouse management and transportation operations has contributed to improving
operational efficiency within these facilities.
Smart logistics centers increasingly adopt advanced technologies such as automated
storage systems, warehouse robotics, and AI-powered inventory management tools to
optimize storage space and improve cargo handling productivity.
3.3. Artificial intelligence applications in import–export logistics
3.3.1. AI in demand forecasting and international transportation planning
Accurate forecasting of market demand and transportation volumes is a critical
factor enabling enterprises to optimize logistics planning in international trade. AI-based
systems can analyze large datasets related to trade flows, market trends, and
macroeconomic indicators to forecast product demand in global markets.
For instance, major Vietnamese exporters in industries such as electronics, textiles,
and agricultural products have begun using data analytics tools and AI technologies to
forecast demand in key markets including the United States and Europe. These
technologies allow companies to proactively prepare production plans, inventory
management strategies, and transportation schedules.
3.3.2. AI in international transportation management
One of the most significant applications of AI in logistics involves optimizing
international transportation routes. AI algorithms can analyze traffic data, weather
conditions, shipping schedules, and port congestion levels to identify the most efficient
transportation routes.
Several logistics platforms in Vietnam have developed AI-integrated Transportation
Management Systems (TMS) that enable companies to monitor transportation activities
in real time and predict delivery times more accurately.
These systems help enterprises reduce transportation costs, improve delivery
reliability, and enhance overall logistics performance.
