IMMOBILIZATION OF ACTIVATED SLUDGE BY A BIOMATERIAL BASED ON PVA/SA/GRAPHENE OXIDE FOR APPLICATION IN THE TREATMENT OF AMMONIUM-RICH AGRICULTURAL WASTEWATERNguyen Van Tuyen1, Hoang Van Tuan2, Doan Van Huong1, Nguyen Tien Dat1, Bui Thi Thuy Ngan1, Nguyen Thi Mai Linh1, Chu Xuan Quang1,*Abstract: The study of immobilization of activated sludge using polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate/ graphene oxide-based biomaterials or hydrogel bead (PVA/SA/GO) was conducted experimentally. First, the effect of GO concentration on methylene blue adsorption capacity was investigated. The graphene oxide (GO) concentration was varied at values of 0, 150, 300, and 750 mg/L. The results showed that the incorporation of GO into the hydrogel material increased both the adsorption capacity and adsorption efficiency. The optimal efficiency was achieved at a GO concentration of 300 mg/L, in which the hydrogel exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 4.77 mg/g and an adsorption efficiency of 55.86%. The adsorption capacity of the biomaterial increased with prolonged contact time and reached 1 Center for Advanced Materials and Environmental Technology, National center for technological progress, Hanoi, Vietnam2 Phenikaa University Nano Institute, Phenikaa University, Hanoi 12116, Vietnam.* Correspondence: quangcx@gmail.com
