Abstract: Green accounting is not only a tool to help business managers make economic
decisions in accordance with the needs of environmental protection but also shows the social
responsibility of businesses. However, the practice of applying green accounting in Vietnam still faces
many difficulties. This study is an evaluation of the implementation of green accounting in enterprises
in Hanoi, on the basis of understanding the advantages and disadvantages of implementing green
accounting as well as factors affecting the application of green accounting in these enterprises; thereby
making recommendations for the parties to promote the implementation of green accounting in
enterprises in this region.

1. Introduction
Currently, many businesses build environmentally friendly images and brands
because green development is an inevitable trend. The rapid development of industry
and economy brings many benefits but also causes environmental destruction.
Businesses must find the answer to the question of what to do to create a balance
between development and environmental protection. In the context of increasingly
extreme climate change, governments have issued policies to limit pollution, exploit
resources, and control emissions, which requires businesses to implement green
transition and the role of accounting in environmental protection is increasingly
concerned.
Green accounting has been mentioned a lot in recent years as an accounting system
that records and provides information related to an organization's environmental costs.
Green accounting is not only a tool to help business managers make economic decisions
in accordance with the needs of environmental protection but also shows the social
responsibility of businesses. Currently, many environmental expenses of businesses
have not been recorded separately, so applying green accounting will help businesses
manage costs, save energy, thereby reducing the cost of products and services.
Research on the application of green accounting has been carried out in many
countries around the world. Recently in Vietnam, the application of green accounting
has also attracted the attention of businesses and scientists. However, they mainly
address the role of green accounting and its practical application in Vietnamese
businesses. There have not been any studies that mention the application of green
accounting for businesses in specific areas.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the implementation of green
accounting at businesses in Hanoi, specifically to study the advantages and
