centers through the main waterway transport corridor, which is Ho Chi Minh City - Can
Tho - Ca Mau (transport volume is about 99 ÷ 105 million tons); Ho Chi Minh City -
An Giang - Kien Giang (transport volume is about 55.2 ÷ 58.5 million tons); waterway
corridor connecting with Cambodia via Tien river, Hau river (transport volume is about
12.7 15.3 million tons) and coastal waterway corridor from Quang Ninh to Kien Giang
(transport volume is about 12.7 15.3 million tons) about 62.5 ÷ 70 million tons;
Technical level of major inland waterways on transport corridors in the region is planned
to reach grade IV or higher by 2030 (MPI, 2022).
It should upgrade and renovate knots in the arterial waterway corridor of the
Mekong Delta, such as the Cho Gao Canal, in order to increase the circulation of goods
to key economic regions such as Ho Chi Minh City; at the same time create opportunities
for many vehicles of different sizes to participate in inland waterway services.
It should upgrade the system of wharves and wharves, waterway ferries such as
Mo Cay Bridge and ancillary services such as cargo lifting, procedures, warehousing,
etc., towards increasing the multimodal transport model, combining advantages of the
Mekong Delta's waterways and existing road system
It should invest in renovating and upgrading the region's inland waterway network
to increase the volume of transportation through this mode and create a good connection
with the road network. Additional public investment is needed in inland ports because

the local government, under which the local government will be responsible for

connecting highways and roads while private operators will invest in other assets and
facilities at the port.
In addition, the study of opening more waterway routes connecting the Mekong
Delta region with Cambodia and Cai Mep - Thi Vai area will greatly facilitate the import
and export of key commodities such as seafood and agricultural products of the region
to Europe and the United States, etc. load for the city area. Ho Chi Minh City, promoting
the role of the deep-water port system.
The second issue is related to how to upgrade the inland waterway logistics

Firstly, in order to develop inland waterway logistics services, it is necessary to
ensure investment in developing inland waterway transport infrastructure; encourage
investment in inland waterway means; support transportation operations and inland
waterway transport services; especially support training inland waterway vehicle
drivers. Currently, investment capital for inland waterway infrastructure is still very
modest, so the Mekong Delta region needs to have supportive policies and call for
socialization and private investment.
Additionally, in order to increase the volume of goods transported by inland
waterways, companies need to ensure that inland waterway services have a reliable
