FTAs like the EVFTA or CPTPP contain very specific content regarding the
responsibilities of member states concerning environmental issues. Due to the

incorporation of environmental content and a high level of commitment, these FTAs are
referred to as new-generation FTAs. It can be observed that the environmental
provisions in these new-generation FTAs are related to most aspects of green growth;
however, three areas are particularly emphasized: Investment in green technology,
Supportive policies, and Greening production and consumption. Other aspects of green
growth, such as Education for awareness raising, Sustainable resource management, and
International cooperation, are mentioned less frequently.

4.2. Implementing/realizing green growth content within the framework of
FTAs
The characteristics of realizing green growth content within the framework of
FTAs include two main aspects: First, commitments are made in the form of
recommendations and encouragement, but in reality, there are binding compliance
requirements behind them; Second, there are mechanisms for monitoring compliance,
accountability, and dispute resolution among the parties.
