Abstract: In the context of international integration, the publication of scientific articles in
prestigious international journals has become an essential requirement for university lecturers in
Vietnam. However, the lecturers of the English Faculty at Hanoi Open University continue to
encounter significant challenges in developing the necessary skills and competencies for
international academic publishing, both in terms of professional expertise and practical conditions.
Research findings indicate that engaging in writing and publishing international articles yields
numerous benefits for English language lecturers, including the enhancement of academic
reputation, the continuous update of disciplinary knowledge, and the improvement of English
academic writing skills. Based on data collected from surveys and interviews, the study identifies key
difficulties such as limited proficiency in academic writing and challenges in using academic
language effectively. In response to these issues, the paper proposes several practical solutions,
including the implementation of a capacity-building model for research and academic writing skills,
the organization of intensive training programs, the establishment of internal research groups,
increased institutional support for publication, and the development of a collaborative academic
community. These recommendations aim to strengthen the research and international publishing
capacity of the academic staff, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the university’s academic
standing and training quality in an increasingly globalized educational environment.
